When the Stars Fall

“Let's run away" he says

So they do

She just gets in his beat down Camaron
ever asks were they're goingand falls asleep

She wakes to a tugging on her sleeve
They're are parked on the side of a one lane road
shadowed by tall, dark trees.

"Let's go"

The sky is a gaudy, boastful red-purple, all bright-brilliant.
The sun hangs tumor-like and red, seems frozen where it is.
She stares right at it.

He stands closeshe can feel the heat in his presence
The moment felt like foreverthe sun is still and ancient smiling

He speaks, almost like a whisper
"I've got too many feelings I don't want these days.
I wish I could take them to Goodwill, donate my emotions to charity.
There has to be someone else who wants them.
What kind of tax break do you think I'd get for giving away my heart."

She smirks and wraps her arms around him
“You'd just give it away to a stranger?”

“I've tried that enough times already,
I guess, but I keep getting the damn thing back.
And don't you try to return it, Ill just tear up the receipt"

She lets this sink in, smiles
"why did we come here?'

"A meteor shower"

They sit in a large open meadow
with grass that reaches to they're shoulders

The stars start falling
